Description
The SS36L uses a Taylor Hammer—the most common type of reflex hammer used by doctors and nurses—and incorporates electronics to record the time and the relative strength of the impact. A piezo copolymer coaxial cable is inserted into the rubber head of the hammer. When compressed or stretched, the cable generates a voltage that is somewhat proportional to the force of acceleration/deceleration; there must be an impact to generate a response signal—just swinging the hammer in the air will not produce a response.
Use the SS36L to perform a series of lessons to measure human reaction time in the bicep (elbow), the Achilles tendon, and the patellar tendon (knee jerk reflex). For one example of how to use the SS36L in your lab, see BSL PRO Lesson H28 Reflex Reaction.
